Lyme disease and oxygen therapy: what does research say?

After a tick bite and antibiotics, some people keep struggling with fatigue, pain and concentration. Many of them come across hyperbaric oxygen in their search.

Lyme disease is caused by a bacterium transmitted by ticks and is treated with antibiotics. Some people keep having symptoms afterwards, often called chronic Lyme or post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome. That is when people start looking for ways to support their recovery.

Research into hyperbaric oxygen for Lyme is still at an early stage. Hospitals have used HBOT alongside regular care since the 1990s, and there are case reports describing patients whose symptoms improved. Larger controlled trials have not yet been published.

We use it ourselves

This theme is personal for us too: within our team and our own circle there is first-hand experience with it. Every story is different, so we would rather share it in a personal conversation than on a web page. Come by the showroom or call us.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy as an effective adjunctive treatment for chronic Lyme disease

One person with persistent symptoms after Lyme disease

A hospital case report of HBOT added to care for a patient with persistent symptoms after antibiotic treatment for Lyme disease, whose complaints improved. The authors note that HBOT has been used for this since the 1990s and that published information is still limited.
